Fiberglass Cable Tray
Fiberglass Cable Tray Description
The fiberglass cable tray is a composite structural member with glass fiber as the reinforcing material and epoxy resin or polyester resin as the matrix, continuously formed through the pultrusion process. Its cross – section is usually designed as ladder – type, tray – type, or trough – type, with a smooth and flat surface. Inside, stiffeners can be set according to requirements to enhance the bearing capacity. Benefiting from the efficient production characteristics of the pultrusion process, FRP cable trays can be manufactured in a standardized and long – dimension (single – root length can reach more than 6 meters) manner, while maintaining the accuracy of the cross – sectional shape and the stability of mechanical properties. In addition, the surface of the cable tray can be customized with flame – retardant, anti – ultraviolet, or anti – slip treatments to meet different environmental requirements.
In terms of material selection, the ratio of high – quality glass fiber and high – performance resin ensures that the cable tray has high strength and good flexibility at the same time, and is not easy to break due to external impact. For example, at some large – scale construction sites, even if it encounters a slight collision, the FRP cable tray can still maintain its structural integrity and will not damage the internal cables.
Application of fiberglass cable tray
fiberglass cable trays are widely used in scenarios with high requirements for corrosion resistance, insulation, and lightweight. In the power system, it is used for cable laying in substations and power plants, especially in corrosive environments such as coastal areas or chemical industrial parks. In the transportation field, the cable wiring systems in subway tunnels, high – speed railway stations, and airports often use fiberglass cable trays, and their insulating properties can effectively avoid the risk of electric leakage. The chemical and metallurgical industries favor their acid – and alkali – resistance and chemical corrosion – resistance capabilities and use them for cable protection in workshops and pipe galleries. In addition, in the new energy field, such as in the cable management systems of photovoltaic power plants and offshore wind farms, fiberglass cable trays have become the first choice to replace traditional metal cable trays due to their weather resistance and lightweight advantages.
Take a coastal substation as an example. Due to long – term erosion by sea breeze and humid air, the previously used metal cable trays showed serious corrosion, which not only increased the maintenance cost but also threatened the stability of power transmission. After being replaced with fiberglass cable trays, after years of operation, the cable trays are still intact, effectively ensuring the safe and stable operation of the power system.
In the construction of a certain subway line, considering the humid underground environment and the strict requirements for fire protection and insulation, the construction party selected fiberglass cable trays with flame – retardant and high – insulation properties. This choice not only ensured the safety of the cables during the subway operation but also reduced the difficulty and cost of later maintenance.
Advantages Of fiberglass cable tray
The core competitiveness of fiberglass cable trays stems from the perfect combination of materials and processes. First of all, it has excellent corrosion resistance and can resist the erosion of acids, alkalis, salt spray, and humid environments for a long time. Its service life can reach more than 30 years, far exceeding that of galvanized steel cable trays. Secondly, its weight is only 1/4 of that of steel and 2/3 of that of aluminum alloy, which greatly reduces the transportation and installation costs and also reduces the load pressure on the building structure. Thirdly, the FRP material itself is insulating and non – conductive, eliminating the need for additional grounding protection and significantly enhancing the safety of the power system. In addition, its flame – retardant grade can reach B1 level, it does not support combustion when encountering fire and is low – smoke and non – toxic, meeting the fire protection standards of modern buildings. In terms of environmental protection, the production process of fiberglass cable trays has low energy consumption and can be recycled, which is in line with the concept of green and sustainable development.
From an economic perspective, although the initial procurement cost of fiberglass cable trays may be slightly higher than that of traditional metal cable trays, considering their ultra – long service life, extremely low maintenance cost, and the reduction in transportation and installation costs, the total cost is actually lower in the long – term. For example, in a large – scale chemical enterprise project, the total cost of using fiberglass cable trays within a 20 – year service cycle is about 30% lower than that of using galvanized steel cable trays.
